UPDATE: Frankfort police release additional details in off-campus shooting

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – Frankfort police have clarified details about a shooting Tuesday night that sent two college students to the hospital.

Officers say a car with three students pulled into Rose’s Car Wash on East Main Street at around 2:40 a.m.  Shortly thereafter, a second car, a dark sedan, pulled into the car wash parking lot.  The students believed they knew the occupants of the sedan, according to police, but were mistaken.  Then, investigators say, the occupants of the sedan fired shots, hitting two of the three students in the car.

Previous reports stated that the sedan was in the parking lot prior to the students arriving.

Police say they don’t know at this time why the students decided to park in the car wash parking lot.

20-year-old Kirtrice Plouche of Texas, a student at KSU, was shot in the arm. She was treated and released from the hospital. 24-year-old Donta Berry, a student from Central University in Ohio, was shot in the stomach. He is currently in surgery. The third occupant of the vehicle, also a student at KSU, was not injured.

The University is conducting its own investigation to ensure the safety of campus. Students and others are strongly encouraged to immediately report ANY suspicious activity to the police. Please contact KSU police at (502) 597-6877.

If anyone has any information on the identity of the alleged shooter, please contact the Frankfort Police Department at (502) 875-8523.

The investigation is ongoing.
