Victim named in officer-involved shooting in Boone County

FLORENCE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man fatally wounded by U.S. Marshall’s in late June in Boone County has been identified.

The Kentucky State Police was requested by the United States Marshals Service to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on June 30, 2021 in Boone County.

Preliminary findings indicate the U.S. Marshals Service attempted to execute multiple arrest warrants 33-year-old Jeremy A. Nelson, of Verona, Ky. Through surveillance, Nelson was located at a residence on Garden Drive in Florence, according to the KSP.

When marshals made contact, Nelson fired a weapon. A brief standoff ensued followed by Nelson brandishing a firearm, at which point he was fired upon, the KSP said in a statement.

Nelson was wounded and despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, the KSP said.

No officers or members of the community were injured.

KSP has statewide jurisdiction and investigates officer-involved shootings throughout the commonwealth as requested by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. KSP is committed to being transparent while ensuring the integrity of the investigation.

FLORENCE, KY. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) has been requested by the United States Marshals Service to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 3:30 PM EST on June 30, 2021 in Boone County.

 At the request of the U.S. Marshals Service, KSP Critical Incident Response Team detectives responded to the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.

 Preliminary findings indicate the U.S. Marshals Service attempted to execute multiple arrest warrants on a subject.  Through surveillance, the subject was located at a residence on Garden Drive in Florence.  When Marshals made contact with the subject, the subject fired a weapon.  A brief standoff ensued followed by the subject brandishing a firearm.  The subject was fired upon by law enforcement and struck.  Lifesaving measures were attempted but the subject was pronounced deceased at the scene.
