LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Ruth Hunt Candies began in the kitchen of Ruth Tharpe Hunt in Mount Sterling where she served homemade sweets to her bridge club. In 1921, she decided to start a small candy business.
Today, the candy store remains a Kentucky landmark as it celebrates 100 years in the business.
On Aug. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Ruth Hunt Candies will host a Neighborhood Celebration of Ruth Hunt’s 100th Year at the Ruth Hunt Candy store on 213 Walton Avenue in Lexington.
The celebration will include Sharky’s Food Truck, free giveaways and prizes each hour, free Blue Mondays and Ale-8, balloon arch and music, Woodford Reserve Display and a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12 p.m.
From July through August, original cream candy is 25% off.
