RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ/Press Release) – Kentucky State Police (KSP) has issued an update on the officer involved shooting at resulted in a suspect’s death earlier this month in Danville.
The suspect who was holding his mother hostage at knife point was Shelby Ray Hardin, 33, of Danville. According to KSP, Danville Police Officers gave Hardin numerous loud verbal directives to drop the knife and let go of his mother, but he ignored their commands. This led to Officer Kyle Lyons firing his agency issued firearm, hitting Hardin.
Hardin was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Boyle County Coroner. The state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort is conducting an autopsy.
Officer Lyons has been placed on administrative leave until July 19 following the Danville Police Department’s policies and procedures. Lyons has worked in law enforcement for 13 years and is currently assigned to the patrol division.

DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A domestic related call this morning escalated to an officer involved shooting causing the death of the suspect in question.
According to Danville Police, units were dispatched to room 221 at the Super 8 motel on the Danville Bypass responding to a call about a suspect holding his mother at knife point. Authorities said that officers on the scene verbally engaged the suspect trying to resolve the situation peacefully, however they were unsuccessful.
A Danville police officer shot one fatal round at the suspect. No other persons were injured in the incident.
Kentucky State Police has been asked to investigate the incident. The three Danville Police officers involved have been put on administrative leave.
