LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A one stop shop neighborhood resource center has officially opened its doors in Lexington’s West End. The Black and Williams Neighborhood Center is the new home of the first United Way WayPoint center. The center aims to help out a number of under served families around the region. Families will be able to get help to improve financial stability, obtain skills for jobs, and receive mental health services. Timothy Johnson with united way of the bluegrass says there was a growing need in this community that went under-invested in for a long time.
“Some of the needs included things such as food and security, we saw instances of people couch surfing and not having a stable place to live. Ultimately this our plan to help students become the best version of themselves in order to do that we need to back up before they get to the school building and help make the neighborhoods and little bit safer and a little more stable,” says Johnson.
The WayPoint center will host a resource fair next Friday July 9th. The fair is free with no registration necessary.
