LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The COVID vaccination clinic at Kroger Field on the University of Kentucky campus is about to add hours, thanks to some dedicated volunteers.

The drive-thru clinic has been operating from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. But starting Saturday, Jan. 30, those hours will extend to 6 p.m.

It’ll mean about 1,000 more people a week can get the shot.

It’s all thanks to volunteers from five UK health care colleges who will work at the clinic on Saturday afternoons. Volunteers will include faculty, staff and students.

Volunteers from the UK College of Medicine will work Saturday, Jan. 30, followed by a rotation of the other colleges on succeeding Saturdays.

This extra five-hour shift will not only mean increased vaccination capacity, but it will also offer students excellent experience and a valuable public service opportunity. It’ll also mean the clinic can expand without straining existing staff.

The UK COVID-19 vaccination clinic also operates 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday-Friday.
