CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A 15-year-old died Sunday evening when the dirt bike he was riding struck an SUV.
According to the Kentucky State Police, a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from Manchester, both were riding dirt bikes southbound on U.S. 421 when they hit a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 23-year-old Tyler Miller, of Manchester.
The Kentucky State Police, London Post was notified by Clay County 911 approximately 6:14 PM on Sunday, January 24th, 2021, of a four vehicle injury accident on US 421 North in the Manchester area of Clay County.
According to the coroner’s office, 15-year-old Cody Melton died at the scene and the 17-year-old was treated and released from Advent Health.
Neither of the teens were wearing helmets, the KSP said in a release.
Allen wasn’t injured.
A 2009 GMC pickup driven by 31-year-old Jessie Collins, of Manchester, din’t see the Tahoe because of the smoke from the first accident and struck the Tahoe. Collins and a passenger also weren’t injured, the KSP said.
Troopers said drugs or alcohol were not a contributing factor.
The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Post 11 Trooper Dackery Larkey. He was assisted at the scene by Post 11, The Burning Springs Fire Department, Clay County EMS, The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and the Clay County Coroner Office.
