KSP investigate officer-involved shooting in Grayson County


CANEYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ)On January 21, 2021, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Kentucky State Police, Post 4- Elizabethtown, received a call from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, advising two deputies had been involved in an officer-involved shooting.

The preliminary investigation revealed the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office received information a wanted subject, Brian Abbott, 34, of Caneyville, was at a residence on North Main Street in Caneyville.

After arriving at the house, two deputies made contact with Abbott inside the residence armed with two knives. After repeated commands to drop the knives, Abbott charged toward the deputies forcing one of the deputies to fire his service weapon striking the suspect three times.

The Grayson County Coroner’s Office pronounced the suspect dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled Friday morning at the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.

The two deputies were not injured and both have been placed on administrative leave.

KSP was assisted at the scene by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Leitchfield Police Department, Grayson County EMS, Caneyville Fire Department, Caneyville Police Department and the Grayson County Coroner’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Travis Sturgill.
