LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The U.S. Senate race between Democratic challenger Amy McGrath and incumbent Republican Mitch McConnell continues on track to be one of the most expensive of its kind in history.
In the three months from July through September, McGrath raised $36.8 million with the vast majority — about 96 percent — coming from individuals, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported citing financial disclosures filed this week.
The record-setting haul pushed her total since she launched her campaign in July 2019 to $84.1 million.
Meanwhile, McConnell reported taking in $15.6 million during the same three months, which McConnell campaign manager Kevin Golden called a “record haul” for Kentucky Republicans in a single quarter, the newspaper reported.
Heading into the final five weeks of the campaign, McConnell reported having $13.8 million cash on hand while McGrath had just under $20 million, according to the Herald-Leader report, citing the financial disclosures.
McGrath spent $33.1 million in the last quarter, a record for the state.
