WHITESBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Three people, including a child, were killed and two other people injured in a head-on crash on KY 15 bypass in Whitesburg on Thursday night, according to Kentucky State Police.
Investigators say 58-year old Gregory Branham, of Mayking, was driving a 2008 Chevy pickup northbound on the bypass that crossed the center line and collided with a 2011 Nissan driven by 70-year old Karen Jackson, of Neon.
KSP says both drivers and a young girl who was a passenger, all died at the scene. Her name wasn’t immediately released.
State Police say two other passengers were airlifted to Pikeville Medical Center with serious injuries. Their names were not released. Investigators didn’t immediately indicate which vehicle the child was riding in or which vehicle the injured passengers occupied.
KSP says it appears seat belts were in-use in one of the vehicles, but not in the other. State Police didn’t specify which vehicle did or did not have them in use.
Investigators say toxicology and autopsy results are pending as the investigation continues.
A stretch of KY 15 bypass was closed in both directions.
Traffic was detoured through downtown Whitesburg, according to State Police.
