ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – On September 15, 2020 at approximately 12:45 P.M. ET, KSP Post 4 received a call from the Hardin County Sheriffs Office requesting assistance with a collision involving a SUV and ATV near the 10,000 block of KY1600.
The preliminary investigation revealed 86-year-old Joseph Hughes, of Vine Grove, was attempting to cross the roadway operating an ATV when he entered the path of a 1995 Ford Explorer operated by 19-year-old Alyssa Hammock, of Guston.
Hughes was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
The affected portion of KY 1600 was closed in order to allow troopers to investigate the collision.
Hammock was not injured.
The Hardin County Sheriffs Office, Vine Police Department, Vine Grove Fire Department and Hardin County EMS assisted KSP at the scene. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Pete Binkley.
