Road repairs to close roads in Bell, Clay, Perry counties

BELL/CLAY/PERRY COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that roadway repair operations start Tuesday, August 25 on a portion of KY 1534 (mile points 5.13 and 5.37) in Bell County.

The roadway repair operations are expected to conclude on Tuesday, September 15.

Work hours are scheduled Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. In case of an emergency, the drill rig will be moved to allow emergency vehicles through the work zone area.

KYTC asks motorists to be aware of the work zone, expect delays, and to utilize safe driving habits when traveling through the area.

The date, time, and duration of work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen delays occur. Meanwhile, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) advises motorists that a asphalt resurfacing project starts Wednesday, August 26 on a portion of KY 2000 (mile points 6.0 9.0) in Clay County.

The section of roadway will be closed Wednesday, August 26, Thursday, August 27, and Friday, August 28 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

And finally, drivers who use KY 2021 (Couchtown Road) in Perry County will have to find an alternate route for the next several days, as repairs are planned that will necessitate the road’s closure.

Contractor crews will be drilling steel to repair breaks. Since the road is not wide enough to accommodate the equipment and also allow traffic to pass, it will be closed to all traffic while the work is ongoing.

Closures are scheduled for the following locations:

  • Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 25-26, at milepoint 5.7
  • Thursday and Friday, Aug. 27-28, at milepoint 4.7
  • Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1, at milepoint 3.8

The road will be closed from 8 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. each day. Inclement weather may require adjustments in the schedule.

No signed detour will be posted. Drivers can use KY 80 and KY 451 as a detour route to bypass the closures.
