LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The coronavirus outbreak continues at the Fayette County Detention Center.
More than 60 inmates have tested positive and 79 others negative, according to the latest report from the jail.
According to Capt. Matt LeMonds, 227 inmates have been tested so far. Results are pending on 88 inmates.
Of 52 staff members tested, five staff members have tested positive, 17 staff members have tested negative, and results are pending for 30 additional staff members, according to LeMonds.
“Yesterday, we received confirmation that an inmate in a second housing unit has tested positive. That inmate has been placed on isolation and the housing unit that he was housed in has been placed on quarantine. All inmates in that housing unit have also been tested and we are awaiting results,” LeMonds said.
The jail currently has about 890 inmates, not anywhere near its 1,400 inmate capacity. It has about 300 total staff.
