SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Scott County Sheriff’s Department lost a veteran and valued ‘officer’ Wednesday.
In a statement, the department said it is “deeply saddened to announce the unexpected passing of Canine Deputy Niko. Today, while being examined for some health issues, Niko was unexpectedly diagnosed with lethal health complications by the veterinary doctors and staff. After discussions about any possible treatments or emergency care, the very difficult decision to humanely euthanize Deputy Niko was made so he would not suffer anymore.”
Niko was partnered with Sgt. Josh Bedson and had “bravely and excitedly served the citizens of Scott County and the deputies of the Scott County Sheriff’s Officer since 2018.”
Niko lived with Bedson and his family and “they are grieving tonight. Please keep them and all of our deputies in your thoughts and prayers,” the department said.
