WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – During a stop in Winchester on Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Congress is working to provide funding to help get students back into the classroom in the fall.
“Further focus is likely to be on kids and school jobs and health care. We can’t have a normal country if we don’t have kids back in school, so that will be a heavy focus of the proposal,” McConnell said.
The Republican from Louisville said the cost of cleaning and sanitizing schools, providing personal protective equipment (PPE) and tools for online learning will be high and lawmakers know it.
As he has done in recent speeches and public appearances, McConnell encouraged everyone to wear a mask and socially distance to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. He said wearing a protective mask shouldn’t be a political issue, it’s a public health issue.
