GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Australia-based Ecofibre, the world’s second largest hemp company, opened a second Kentucky location Monday, eventually bringing 60 jobs to Georgetown and Scott County.
The 44,000-square-foot facility in the Lane’s Run Business Park, provides testing on dozens of hemp materials and processing technology for hemp products. The company already has a facility in Cynthiana.
Work began on the $16 million investment in the Georgetown facility last summer. Among the company’s customers around the world are CVS stores.
The project is part of the state’s push to become the nation’s AgTech capital, an effort the state eventually hopes will make Americans associate Kentucky with hemp as well as bourbon. As many as 900 farmers in the state will grow hemp this year and has many as 200 companies have some role in the industry, according to the state Department of Agriculture.
