ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Two men were killed Thursday afternoon when the truck in which they were riding left the road, went airborne across a driveway and crashed into a tree.
According to the Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt, 40-year-old Douglas Pennington, of Morehead, and 27-year-old Randy Charles Sammons, of Olive Hill, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Both men worked for All Tech Professional Services of Morehead, according to a post on the coroner’s Facebook page.
The 2015 Ford F-250 pickup in which they were riding was eastbound in the 3300 block of U.S. Highway 60 in eastern Rowan County when the accident happened just before 4 p.m., according to the Facebook post.
The truck crossed the westbound lane, went into a ditch and then airborne when it hit a driveway, and struck a tree, according to the coroner’s office and photos from the scene.
The road was closed for about five hours while Northcutt, Deputy Sheriff Jamie Copher, Deputy Sheriff Rob Duncan and Morehead Police accident reconstructionist Det. Bryant Furman investigated.
Other agencies assisting on scene were Kentucky State Police, Rowan Co. EMS, Morehead Fire Department, and Hayes Crossing/Haldeman Fire Department.
The accident remains under investigation.
