Woman charged in pedestrian death


DEANE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Letcher County woman is charged with reckless homicide in connection with the death of a 39-year-old pedestrian Sunday evening.

According to the Kentucky State Police, 30-year-old Rebecca Hall, of Cromona, was driving north on Kentucky Highway 7 in a 2002 Jeep Liberty, when the SUV struck 39-year-old Claude Shannon Whitaker, of Deane, as he walked near Razorblade Branch Road.

Whitaker was pronounced dead by Letcher County Deputy Coroner Derek Meade.

Hall left the scene as troopers arrived, but was arrested later at her home in Haymond community of Letcher County, the KSP said in a release.

She was charged with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident and tampering with physical evidence.

Hall remains in the Letcher County Detention Center pending court proceedings.

Autopsy and toxicology results are pending, the KSP said. The remains under investigation by Trooper Jarrett Fields and KSP Post 13 Det. Brandon Thomas.
