BOURBON COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Mention the name Secretariat just about anywhere in the world and people recognize the name.
He was the first horse in 25 years to win the Triple Crown in 1973.
His records still stand today. Vogue magazine once called him the Clark Gable of horses because of his personality.
Throwing a birthday party for the champion makes sense for Paris and Bourbon County, the home of world-renowned Claiborne Farm where Secretariat trained and is buried.
But even more, the four-day event is an opportunity to show off a community, a community deep in history but also rich in opportunity.
Secretariat’s 50th is April 16-19th. In addition to the tribute to Secretariat, the event will feature, music, arts and crafts, a Gala birthday party and 10-K race and much more.
Paris and Bourbon County has been home to more than 60 champion horses.
