LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Officials say a teacher has resigned after an incident in which she allegedly drank alcohol while driving with a child in her car.
Officials with Lincoln County Public Schools say investigations into former high school teacher, Courtney Martin, began after reports of the incident came in and she was said to be acting strange.
Investigators say Martin is also suspected of sexual misconduct with an 18-year-old student on the same night of the reported incident. They say the sexual misconduct didn’t happen on school property and no criminal charges will be filed because of the age of the student.
Officials say Martin admitted to drinking alcohol with a child in the vehicle and hanging out with students. They say Martin resigned from her position on Thursday.
Lincoln County Schools Superintendent Mike Rowe released the following statement:
“Our heart goes out to those affected by the events that resulted in the arrest of Courtney Martin. Our primary concern is always for the safety and well-being of our students and the members of our school community. The Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified Personnel explicitly states a teacher shall not engage in any sexually related behavior with a student with or without consent. The Lincoln County School system maintains high standards for all our employees and these allegations stand in stark contrast to our expectations.”
