LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – While gas prices remained steady or went down across Kentucky and most of the country, they took a big jump in Lexington, according to AAA.
Gas prices soared 14-cents overnight Monday in Lexington, from $2.19-to-$2.33, according to AAA.
The national gas price average is $2.54 a gallon, which is down three cents from a week ago, but up 30-cents from a year ago, according to AAA.
Why the isolated and sudden price increase in Lexington? Despite strong supplies and lower demand, a gas station may decide to hike its price, which triggers a domino-effect with all the stations in the city, according to AAA.
The good news is, those price flucuations are often short-lived and prices come down, according to AAA.
