LEXINGTON, KY. (WTVQ) – A Lexington man is in custody after police say he and another man robbed two people at gunpoint during a drug transaction.
Lexington Police Department responded to a call about a shooting on Winchester Road and Eastland Parkway around 1:12 a.m. on January 6.
After arriving, officers say they found the victims, Christopher Morningstar and Heather Spain, with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to court documents, the victims told officers they met the suspect, 24-year-old Alajuwuan Martin, at a bar on the night of the shooting. They say he introduced himself as “Woo,” and they all left the bar together to go to an apartment to buy marijuana.
According to officers, the victims say they smoked marijuana with Martin and, as they were all leaving the building, the victims say a man wearing a mask and carrying a gun ran from behind the apartment building and demanded money from them. They say Martin then pulled out a gun and also demanded money from them.
After saying they didn’t have any money, officers say the masked man shot Morningstar and Martin shot Spain in the shoulder.
According to police, they were able to identify Martin using security footage from a store Martin and the victims went to before going back to his apartment.
Martin is charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, assault and robbery.
