5k will benefit local nonprofit supporting victims of sex trafficking

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A local nonprofit organization that helps women recovering from trauma due to sex trafficking is hosting a 5K run on Saturday to raise money for its cause.

Unshackled By Love Ministries is hosting ‘Freeze For Freedom 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk’ at Coldstream Park in Lexington.

Organizers say there will be food trucks, free Starbucks coffee and raffles. They also say there will be first, second and third place prizes.

Unshackled By Love has been open for five years and has served 34 women.

“We are a one to two year trauma-based treatment program that provides healing, help and education to help these women to become a part of society and learn to take care of themselves,” said Founder Jewellan Morrison.

Check-in for the event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the race will start at 10:00 a.m.
