FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Three raccoons tested positive with canine distemper in Franklin County, according to the State Journal newspaper.
The newspaper reports the test results on the animals came back on December 27.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife tells the newspaper two of the raccoons were found in downtown Frankfort and the third was found dead behind the Salato Wildlife Education Center.
The department says it’s not sure if these cases are related to another case where a wild raccoon found on Frankfort’s east side in October also tested positive for distemper.
Canine distemper cannot be transmitted to humans but can infect unvaccinated animals.
