LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – It’s the weekend before the holidays and AAA is expecting millions of people to be traveling on the roads and in the air.
AAA is reporting this is the eighth consecutive year of recording breaking travel.
AAA says it expects around 115 million people to travel during the holidays and about 90% will be on the roads.
Denise Nelson is traveling on the road from Michigan to Florida. She says she was on the road by 5:30 a.m. in hopes of missing traffic.
“I mean I’ve seen a lot of people that are just zig-zagging in and out and those are the ones that cause accidents. Seen one accident so far is all, that’s good,” said Denise Nelson.
AAA says roads will be crowded with millions planning to drive over Christmas, but with the holiday landing on in the middle of the week it helps spread out the travelers.
Roads won’t be the only busy spot.
AAA expects about seven million people to get to their destinations by plane which is the most its seen since 2003.
“If you’re flying in the morning that tends to be our busier time so allow a little extra time at that point,” said Amy Caudill, Director of Marketing at Blue Grass Airport.
AAA expects the busiest travel days to be after Christmas on December 26 and 27.
