FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Democratic state representative from Lexington pre-filed two health-related bills.
Representative Cherlynn Stevenson pre-filed a bill that would end waiting periods to qualify for employer-provided health insurance.
Stevenson says the bill would make coverage effective on a new hire’s first day at work, and would fine companies between $100 and $1,000 for each day a new employee is not covered. She also says the employer would be responsible for medical expenses that may occur during the waiting period.
Stevenson says the bill would not apply to companies that don’t offer health insurance to employees.
Additionally, Stevenson pre-filed a bill that would stop surprise medical billing.
Stevenson says she’s heard many stories about surprise medical bills and debt families have no idea how to pay.
