LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Kentucky school is awarded for having 100-percent of its eligible students registered to vote.
Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes presented students from J. Graham Brown School the 2019 Georgia Davis Powers Award on Wednesday.
Grimes created the Georgia Davis Powers Award in 2016 to honor the first African-American and woman elected to the Kentucky State Senate.
“This award honors Senator Powers and her passion for getting young people involved in the democratic process,” said Grimes. “She knew that equality begins at the ballot box and I can’t think of a better way to honor her work then to award young people who encourage their peers to register to vote and be civically engaged.”
The school was the first to receive the award in 2016.
