HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Inmet Mining, the company that bought bankrupt Blackjewel, says it’s temporarily halting its coal operations beginning Monday, December 9, 2019.
Leslie Bledsoe works with the nonprofit, ‘With Love from Harlan’, and she sent ABC 36 News the letter she says Inmet employees received from the company president.
In the letter, the president says the company needs to sell the coal it has before it can continue as business as normal.
If the coal sells, the president expects miners to be back at work on December 26, 2019, according to the letter.
The letter also says miners will get paid for Christmas, benefits will still be active and salaried employees will not be affected.
