Downtown Lexington’s tree lighting Christmas kickoff

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Now that Thanksgiving’s over, it’s on to Christmas for many people.

Some people celebrated the start of the holiday season tonight in Triangle Park, watching the city’s tree lighting.

They were treated to holiday music, ice skating and they even got to see downtown transform into a winter wonderland full of lights.

We talked to Rachel Cook who said she stopped by the event with her boyfriend’s family after putting up some Christmas lights and doing some Black Friday shopping.

She says they’re spending the day getting into the Christmas Spirit.

“My boyfriend’s mom really wanted to do it, she was really excited and it was just a fun way to spend time with family so it’s just something to do together,” Cook said.

The city estimates around 5,000 people watch the tree light up.
