ASHLAND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Thousands of Kentucky Power customers in eastern Kentucky spent part of Wednesday without electricity due to wind-related power outages.
Wind gusts in excess of 50 mph across the eastern part of the state brought down trees, power lines and poles and damaged other electrical facilities, according to Kentucky Power.
An estimated 7,000 customers were without power at the height of the outage late Wednesday afternoon, according to the utility company.
Some employees who were off for the Thanksgiving holiday were called back to work to get power restored. About 250 crews and contractors fanned out across the region making repairs, according to Kentucky Power.
Customers can report outages online, on their mobile device or to the company’s Customer Operations Center at 800-572-1113.
Outages can also be reported via the Kentucky Power mobile app or on social media through private and direct messages. The app can be downloaded for free at both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
