Driver killed in hit-and-run accident in Madison County

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky State Police said one person was killed in a hit-and-run crash Friday morning in Madison County.

Troopers said two cars were going north on I-75 near the 86 mile marker when they both lost control, spun out and pulled over on opposite sides of the road.

State Police said 58-year-old Robert Hepler, of Johnson City, TN, got out of the car and was hit by a different driver traveling north.

The Madison County Coroner’s Office said Hepler was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to authorities, the car that hit Hepler left the scene.

Troopers say the other driver who was involved in the initial crash also fled the scene before officials arrived.

State Police asks anyone with information on the driver or anyone who saw the crash to contact Post 7.

Hepler was driving a Gold Buick passenger car.
