KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A mother is charged after deputies say she left her young child with a sex offender while she was in jail.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Whitney Lawson, of Flat Lick, was taken into custody on October 29 for outstanding warrants.
Deputies say the following day, they learned Lawson left her 7-year-old daughter with 35-year-old Michael Campbell, a non-compliant sex offender.
According to deputies, they found the child and Campbell in the parking lot of the Knox County Detention Center.
Deputies arrested and charged Campbell with Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration.
Lawson also faces an additional charge of Endangering Welfare of a Minor.
According to authorities, the child was released to a family member.
