DANVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ)- A Confederate statue in Danville will be moved.

The Advocate-Messenger reports the Presbyterian Church of Danville is moving the statue of Confederate captain Robert E. Logan from the church’s section of Bellevue Cemetery to the Confederate section, saying the statue is affecting the church’s ability to serve the community.

The Church says the decision was “prayerfully considered,” according to the paper.

City Manager Ron Scott says Captain Logan is buried in Bellevue Cemetery.

The Advocate-Messenger reports Scott said the church believes moving the statue to the cemetery will be “more fitting” and provide greater protection from vandalism.

Scott says the church congregation plans to pay for all expenses involved with moving the statue and they are waiting on approval from the city to purchase the intended site for the statue, according to the paper.
