LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A renovated neighborhood park in Lexington’s distillery district reopened Monday with new features.
The Thompson Road Park renovation project included a new half basketball court, playground equipment, benches, picnic table, and drinking fountain. A section of the park is open lawn, offering space for games and activities.
“We have over 100 parks in Lexington, none more important than neighborhood parks,” Mayor Linda Gorton said. “They’re a convenient place for fun and exercise.”
“Thanks to the dedication of many community members and our Parks & Recreation team, this park renovation has become a reality,” Councilmember Josh McCurn said. “I look forward to seeing the children and families of Melrose Oak Park subdivision and surrounding neighborhoods enjoy the revitalized park for many years to come.”
Neighborhood parks like Thompson Road allow more community members to be within walking distance of an outdoor recreational area,” said Monica Conrad, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Parks like this are a place to play ball after school, meet up with friends, or celebrate a birthday.”
