BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – An accident on Thursday morning has taken the life of a Clark County school Teacher.
According to the Breathitt County Sheriff 49-year-old Rich McCune of Jackson County died after hitting a vehicle head-on.
The accident happened on KY 15 in Breathitt County at the Wolfe County line.
Investigators say it appears McCune fell asleep at the wheel, crossed the center line and hit a UPS truck head-on.
Breathitt County Sheriff John Hollan said he grew up with McCune.
He says they played football together in high school.
McCune graduated from high school in 1988 and received a full scholarship to play UK football, according to Sheriff Hollan.
McCune was a special education teacher at George Rogers Clark High.
The Clark County School district released this statement:
“The GRC family is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our teacher, co-worker, and friend, Rich McCune. We want to reshare our New Teacher Feature on Mr. McCune, whose warm personality and gentle spirit touched all of us during his time at GRC. Our prayers are with his family.”
The UPS driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
