LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – UK HealthCare’s neonatal intensive care unit and labor delivery unit, hosted its annual Walk to Remember.
On Sunday families who have lost a child from miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death gathered inside to remember them in a memorial service.
Sandy Mojesky works for the hospital and said this event is for both families and nurses.
“it is a very great process for them to heal. a lot of the families come and if you notice some of them make T-shirts and other things to remember the babies and the whole families will come and I think it’s very good for them to be able to communicate with the other families that have gone through these same losses and let them know that they’re not alone during this whole difficult process,” Mojesky said.
They also plant a tree every year in remembrance of the children, families write messages on biodegradable paper and bury it with the planting of the tree.
October is pregnancy and infant loss awareness month.
