LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – It was day one of a volunteer playground build at Shillito Park in Lexington on Wednesday. More than 120 people turned-out to help.
Michael Johnson, the Deputy Director of Lexington Parks and Recreation, says it begins with getting the mulch in, working on the swings and motion pieces that were already installed and getting the base of the play structure set up.
Johnson says there are a variety of jobs being designated for volunteers such as drilling, mulching and planting trees.
Organizers say there are grandparents who came out for this new project who took part with their children on the last build 26-years ago. And, there are children who are taking part with their parents in 2019.
