LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – All westbound lanes of I-64 just past the northern split in Fayette County were temporarily closed Tuesday night due to a tractor-trailer fire, according to the Lexington Fire Department.
Lexington Police detoured traffic northbound onto I-75. Despite the detour, traffic was backed-up for miles.
Firefighters say the trailer portion of the truck caught fire. They say the semi driver was able to disconnect the tractor portion, so it did not catch fire.
Investigators say the preliminary report was the semi was hauling dirt, manure or mulch.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet estimated the lanes would be closed for 1-to-2 hours.
