GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) – Thousands of people gathered together at great crossing high school, a brand new school in Scott County.
The Warhawks played against the Scott County Cardinals, the only other high school in Scott County.
Katlyn Shelton and Charly Reynolds go to great crossing and are proudly rooting for their new team.
“It’s awesome, I’m really excited about it,” Reynolds said.
“I’m hoping for good sportsmanship between both teams,” Shelton said.
People came from all over to watch this football game. Lamar Donaldson III is a football coach himself in Lexington and he said although great crossing is a first-year team, they have a lot of people cheering them on and getting excited about this new rivalry.
“If you could see the fans, if you could see the fans, if you could see the atmosphere. This don’t do nothing but draw people to be like ‘you know what I’m going to come here, I’m going to play for this other school’ and we’re going to make it legendary. You know what I’m saying? I think it’s going to be awesome for years to come,” Donaldson said.
It was a busy first night of high school football.
