LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A volleyball game Wednesday night at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington didn’t just show off two in-state teams in the pre-season, it also spiked donations for a former player.

UK and opponent Western Kentucky University raised money tonight for former WKU player Alyssa Cavanaugh, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in September of 2018.

UK Setter Madison Lilley said the team is proud to stand behind Cavanaugh as she goes through this tough time in her life.

“I just remember playing Alyssa Cavanaugh in the 5th set of the NCAA tournament and she has so much fire and so much fight and I think it’s really cool that we got to do this as a team, to represent her and do what we can to help her fight because I know that just like she was on the volleyball court she’s going to do that against leukemia”

The teams raised more than $3,000 during the game for the Bone Marrow and Cancer Foundation.
