WHITESBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – Money donated for out-of-work Blackjewel coal miners who live in Letcher County will soon be distributed, according to county officials.

The Letcher County judge-executive’s office posted on Facebook that the county will deposit the donated money in a bank account.

On August 6-and-7, county staff will be at the Letcher County Recreation Center to help miners fill-out paperwork to process their checks.  The event is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Miners are asked to bring a copy of their June 28, 2019, check stub from Blackjewel that bounced, a valid ID and social security card.

Checks will be made available at the LKLP office in downtown Whitesburg the following week, according to county officials.

Donations are still being accepted.

Blackjewel miners either weren’t paid or their paychecks bounced once the coal company filed for bankruptcy July 1, 2019.
