LPD requests old photos that could help with cold case

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Police Department is asking people to check their photo albums for any historic photos of Murphy’s Landing in Mercer County.

The department is investigating the 1977 disappearance of Melanie Flynn. It’s believed Flynn’s disappearance had something to do with the Blue Grass Conspiracy, a multi-million-dollar drug ring that was said to include Lexington police officers and well connected community members.

Police say they received information Flynn’s remains may be buried somewhere near Murphy’s Landing, which is located along the Kentucky River and U.S. 68 at the Jessamine and Mercer County line. Last week, crews began searching an old campground in the area.

Investigators are looking for photos of the area from the 1950s through 1970s that may show what buildings or other structures were there at the time.

Photos can be emailed to policepio@lexingtonpolice.ky.gov . Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact Lexington Police by calling (859) 258-3600.
