Kentucky men wanted for transporting fighting roosters to Colorado

SILVERTHORNE, Colo. (WTVQ) – Colorado authorities are looking for three men, including two from Kentucky, they say have transported roosters across state lines for cockfighting.

The Summit Daily newspaper says arrest warrants have been issued for 28-year-old Cody Lance Smith and 29-year-old Kenneth D. Dotson, both of Kentucky, along with 26-year-old Austin Clanton, of Tennessee.

Police say the men were taking the birds from Kentucky to California to deliver to 42-year-old Jose Saltos Jr. when their vehicle was impounded by the Colorado State Patrol May 15.

All four have been charged with felony animal fighting and misdemeanor cruelty to animals.

According to police, the birds had to be euthanized.
