BCSO: Homeowner holds suspected car thief at gunpoint

BOYLE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Deputies arrested a man after a homeowner held a suspected car thief at gunpoint Thursday.

According to the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a private residence on Nield Road just before 4 a.m.

The homeowners said they had been awakened when their gate intercom was rang, and soon discovered a vehicle was missing from where it had previously been parked.

Deputies said the homeowner went outside to investigate and discovered two of his vehicles were moved and had also been damaged.

The suspect, identified as Gary Lynn Ryan II, was still sitting inside one of the vehicles, according to the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the homeowner, “rightfully and lawfully armed, then held Ryan at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived.”

Ryan, of Harrodsburg, was charged with Theft By Unlawful Taking Over $10,000, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was lodged at the Boyle County Detention Center.
