PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – A street in downtown Prestonsburg where a man was killed when a roof blew off during a storm has reopened.
West Court Street closed May 29 following a severe thunderstorm that took the roof off a business.
The roof came crashing down on a passing car, killing the driver, 61-year old Michael Coleman, of Pikeville. He was retired from Pike County Public Schools where he worked nearly 30-years. He had worked his way up to maintenance director at the time of his retirement.
His fiancé in the passenger seat miraculously was not hurt.
Three unoccupied parked cars were also damaged by the falling debris.
The National Weather Service determined the storm was a downburst with peak wind gusts of 70-miles per hour.
