ESTILL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man who police say sent sexually inappropriate messages to an Estill County student has been handed over to immigration.
Torstein Torsteinson was in Three Forks Regional Jail until Monday, when the jail says agents with Immigration Customs Enforcement took him into custody.
Torsteinson was in the jail, charged with unlawful transaction with a minor.
Kentucky State Police say he was communicating with a student of his girlfriend, who was a teacher at Estill County High School.
Investigators say 39-year-old Sherry Murphy was aware of the conversations between the student and Torsteinson, but did not report it.
Police say Murphy also deleted the messages between the student and Torsteinson to keep others from finding them.
Murphy is charged with unlawful transaction with a minor, tampering with physical evidence and failure to report child abuse/neglect.
She is no longer employed with Estill County Schools.
