FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ)- Motorists should expect road work along 10 miles of US 60 in western Carter County in the coming weeks.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says paving operations are currently under way along US 60 from the Rowan-Carter county line (mile marker 0) to just east of Harris Street in Olive Hill (mile marker 10).
As weather allows, crews will be resurfacing the highway about 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day for the next several weeks. Traffic will be restricted to one lane in work areas. Watch for flaggers directing traffic, and expect delays.
The project is being done by Mountain Enterprises, Inc., under a $2,027,414.90 low-bid Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contract.
Work in the project includes new blacktop, upgraded sidewalk ramps in Olive Hill, and other improvements. In addition, the highway’s lane striping pattern will be changed in Olive Hill to create a two-way, left-turn lane from Hitchens Avenue past KY 2 thru downtown connecting to the existing two-way, left-turn lane near Cold Springs Road and eliminating the truck lane near the end of Railroad Street to improve traffic flow and safety.
Motorists are urged to drive carefully during the road improvement project by slowing down, reducing distractions, and heeding all flaggers and warning signs. Road work schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
