LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A group of police officers were out in the community but not as crime stoppers.

Instead, some officers spent their time getting to know the people they serve and protect.

People in Lexington got the chance to meet their local law enforcement.

Officer, Andy Cain says their job requires them to go to calls that aren’t often positive, but he believes events like ‘Picnic with Police’ make it easy for everyone to get to know them for who they really are.

“We love to get to know people and we want people to come up and talk to us,” said Officer Andy Cain.

Pauletta Clay says police aren’t always shown in the best light and she believes it needs to change.

“There’s a lot of fear, a lot of fear with police and as history has shown in the past and present it’s a very harsh time,” said Pauletta Clay.

Clay says events like ‘Picnic with Police’ prove police are on the side of the people.

Police hope to build off of this picnic and make this a more common occurrence.
