WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Daniel Boone National Forest is interested in receiving comments on a proposal to increase recreation fees at 25 sites and to implement new fees at nine sites.

The proposal would enable the agency to improve facilities and services at these sites and create prices consistent with comparable facilities on public and private lands. The proposed changes align with the U.S. Forest Service Southern Region’s price guidance.

The Daniel Boone National Forest spreads across 21 counties of eastern Kentucky and has more than 100 outdoor recreation facilities, which include campgrounds, picnic areas, boat ramps, shooting ranges, trails and other sites.

The Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act of 2004 allows the Forest Service to keep 80-95 percent of fees collected at recreation sites to operate, maintain and improve these areas. The Forest implemented the last fee changes in 2005.
