Benefit concert planned for Harlan County family devastated by fire


HARLAN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A benefit concert is planned for a Harlan County family devastated by a house fire that left took the lives of three people.

Local musical groups and artists are scheduled to perform Thursday, May 2, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., at Harlan Elementary School.

The event is free and open to the public.  Donations are encouraged to the ‘With Love From Harlan’ organization, which has already raised more than $12,000 for funeral and medical expenses for the Howard family.

Twin toddlers died in the house fire on April 22 at the family home in the Totz community.  Their mother, Allyson Howard, died from her injuries two days after the fire.  The father, Chad Howard, remains in critical condition in a burn unit in Augusta, Georgia.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
